Dear Colleagues,
English Studies at Large
An Undergraduate Conference at Illinois State University Sponsored by the English Department and Sigma Tau Delta
G/great W/writers do all sorts of wonderful things. We want to read them, we want to emulate them, and we can’t stop thinking about them. At this conference, the goal is to explore what you think great writing is as we explode the traditional definition of canon from the English Studies standpoints of literature, rhetoric and composition, and linguistics. The English Studies at Large Conference at Illinois State University, sponsored by the English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta, encourages you to submit proposals (both individual and panel) for 15 minute presentations (roughly 6 page papers or the equivalent of an electronic/digital or other non-paper presentation). Your proposal should be a 250 word abstract that engages with some aspect(s) of great writing. We will gladly consider traditional literary analysis, rhetorical inquiries, composition research, and linguistic studies, along with other submissions that fall within the field of the whole of English Studies. Please submit your proposal as a 2-page electronic document (Microsoft Word .doc or .docx files).
The first page should include your name, school affiliation, title of your presentation, technology needs, a brief (100 word) biography for the presenter, and a contact e-mail address. The second page should be your abstract without any identifying information.
Panel proposals should include a title for the panel and information for all three presenters on the first page(s) and three abstracts without identifying information on successive page(s), all as one document. To submit your proposal, please e-mail EnglishStudiesAtLarge@gmail.com<mailto:EnglishStudiesAtLarge@gmail.com>.
The deadline for submission is November 29th, 2010.
The Conference will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Stevenson Hall on the Illinois State University campus in Normal, IL.
