Professional Shakespeare on Campus (and FREE!)

As some of you may already know, I run a theatre company - the Adirondack Shakespeare Company. Last year we performed on campus, and this year we are back!

We will be performing uncut professional productions of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and The Merchant of Venice this weekend on the Manhattan Campus and next weekend on the Queens Campus. Here's the kicker -- we begin rehearsing together on Wednesday. ADK Shakes rehearses each play for a total of 12 hours. To call it "exciting" is a gentle euphemism.

Here are the details on times, dates, and locations of the performances.

Friday, February 10 - Measure for Measure
Saturday, February 11 - The Merchant of Venice
Saval Auditorium, Manhattan Campus, 101 Murray St

Friday, February 17 - Measure for Measure
Saturday, February 18 - The Merchant of Venice
Moot Courtroom, 2nd Floor, Belson Hall (School of Law)

All performances begin at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Seating is general admission. Admission is FREE for St. John's Students with STORM Card.

The Law School and the Entertainment Arts and Sports Law Society are hosting an academic roundtable discussion on Friday afternoon, February 17 at 12:00 PM. Our very own Dr. Steve Mentz will be part of this roundtable. The discussion on law and justice will focus around several selected scenes from the productions.

You can find out more information on the production by visiting our website or our Facebook page. I hope that you'll be able to attend. If a free performance isn't enough, consider that you'll see a familiar face in the cast. For several years before coming to St. John's, I acted professionally throughout the mid-Atlantic. It's fantastic to be onstage again, and I would love the added support of my friends and colleagues at St. John's! Come see me play Escalus on Friday and Portia on Saturday!
